Data Type: | Numeric |
Definition | Body Surface Area (BSA) is a calculated value for the surface area of the human body. BSA value is calculated based off of a known height and weight value for the patient, similar to BMI. For i2b2, the BSA value is pulled directly from the source system (EPIC/WebCIS) and the calculations are performed by the source system for BSA. The default and only unit of measure available for BSA is m2 (meters-squared).
Note! BSA values will only be available if both a height and weight value are recorded for a patient at a single encounter. If either of these values are not available at the time of entry of Height or Weight, a BSA will not be available for the patient. |
