Overview | Insurance Payers

Insurance and payers include the coverage information for claims issued during a patient’s hospital visit. Insurance information is recorded and stored at both the patient level (their current, active insurance) as well as at the encounter itself. Two different levels of insurance information are provided as a patient’s insurance coverage may change over time and depending on the research question, may require looking at historical coverage versus current coverage.
